Revolution captain retires

For all you Revs fans out there, some not so happy news. After tearing his ACL September 26 vs. Seattle last season, New England Revolution captain and right midfielder Steve Ralston appears to have called it quits on his illustrious career.

Perhaps one of the most under-rated players ever to play in the MLS, Ralston was one of the last remaining original members of the league coming in with the Tampa Bay Mutiny - who later folded - and was one of the stars on the team along with Colombian international Carlos Valderrama (one of the most recognizable faces in the league with his big floppy hair).

He is the MLS leader in appearances (378), starts (372), assists (135), and minutes played (33,143). He scored 76 career MLS goals, earned 35 caps (international appearances) for the U.S. national team while scoring four goals, and played on each of the Revolution MLS Cup final teams (2002, 05-07), but never won an MLS Cup.

Expect the U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame to come knocking pretty quickly and perhaps the Revs to have some kind of ceremony some time later this season.
