Eat your heart out Olympics

With all it's cornball story lines, packaged and dispensed every two minutes, the Olympics are a bit much, no?

I can give you a real life story though that is incredible and developing by the day. Paraguay and Club America star Salvador Cabanas, who was shot in the head in a Mexico City bar last month and left for dead, moved out of the intensive care unit of Mexico City's Angeles del Pedregal Hospital.

"His movements are more agile with no problems, and all of his medicines are being taken by mouth," Dr. Ernesto Martinez said. "He's eating normally. He has much more strength ... He speaks when he wants, with whom he wants. He's progressing very satisfactorily."

Martinez said it was impossible to know the long-term effects of the shooting. Hours after the attack, surgeons decided against removing the bullet fragment, saying surgery was too dangerous.

Cabanas is still not allowed to walk as that could increase the pressure around his brain. However, there's still hope that he might play soccer again someday.

It'll be interesting to see if he progresses, what he'll do during the World Cup. Even if he's not in South Africa (as a spectator), it would be impossible not to root for Paraguay.
