Arjen Robben, who some have accused of being a bit of a flower - touch him and he'll break - in his career, has proclaimed himself fully fit and ready to play after missing Bayern's last two games with a calf strain.
Asked if he felt he could play a full part in the match, Robben said: "Yes, I hope so. I'm ready, I'm here and I didn't travel just to be in the stands. We still have one more training session to go this evening. It will be important for me because I haven't trained too much in the last few days.
"But I'm here, I'm ready for the game and if everything tonight is going well and I feel well tomorrow - of course, in the end it is for the trainer to decide, but I think I can be ready for tomorrow.''
Robben scored a 'goal of the year' quality goal against Fiorentina in the second leg of their round of 16 match to seal Bayern's place in the quarterfinals, and should be key return for the men in red taking Hamit Altintop's place in the lineup.
The news on Man U's front is decidely much worse as Wayne Rooney will not make a miraculous recovery of the ankle injury inside a week of what doctors originally said will take 2-4 weeks to fully heal.
There had been discussion that Rooney himself said he was ready to go, but United manager Alex Ferguson slammed that door shut today in an ESPNsoccernet story stating the England international has "no chance" to start.
''He's got no chance,'' he said. ''We've made some good progress with the lad, the medical team have done fantastic, but I'm not prepared to take a risk on a player who is not 100% fit.
''The boy is making good progress. The medical team have done a fantastic job but it is an ankle injury the same as any other ankle injury. You can't take a risk with a player who is not 100%.
''I don't think he will be on the bench although he might talk me into it, it is a difficult one.''
In addition to Robben, Bayern will also have the reinforcements of Bastian Schweingsteiger, who missed the last game due to a yellow card suspension, and Mario Gomez, who was limmited to 20 minutes of duty coming on as a sub with 20 minutes to go.

ReplyDeleteSchweinsteiger the engine returns. United will truly miss Anderson tomorrow who seems a perfect player to match Schweinsteiger. Instead i see fletcher and Carrick lacking the toughness to really fade the German. Though at this point its just too hard to doubt The Powers of Sir Alex.Gonna be a good one. Enjoy
