In a move that seems to echo what the real superpowers in soccer think to do all the time, former U.S. men's national team star Claudio Reyna was hired as the U.S. soccer federation's technical director.
In his new role, the former American captain (and first Yank to really do anything while playing abroad), Reyna will formulate plans for players, coaches and referees.
USSF president Sunil Gulati, who introduced Reyna on Wednesday, says Reyna will establish broad curriculums involving teaching the sport to 6-to-12-year-olds.
Reyna made 112 appearances for the United States from 1994-2006 and played for Bayer Leverkusen (1994-97), Wolfsburg (1997-99), Glasgow Rangers (1999-2001), Sunderland (2001-03), Manchester City (2003-07) and the New York Red Bulls (2007-08).
