Wembley's turf sucks, I blame Prince Charles

You'd think with all the rain that they get in England and the UK, they would be able to put together a better brand of field turf but hey, what do I know? I'm just a cynical Yank.

The field at Wembley Stadium has come under fire in recent weeks after it was torn apart during the FA Cup semifinals.

After being used one last time for a rugby match (and clearly, those animals don't care what surface they play on), it's being replaced. This marks the 10th time that the field has been replaced since the new Wembley Stadium opened in 2007.

Wembley will use the Sports Turf Research Institute, an independent company that also advised on the surface for England's World Cup training base in South Africa, to help improve the grass at their premiere venue.

"The pitch will be the same type as was used in the latter part of last year," Wembley Stadium said in a statement. "We will continue to refine the installation and maintenance regime to build on the formula that was successful during that period.

"Wembley and STRI feel confident that we will be able to deliver and sustain a good pitch at Wembley for our busy football schedule in May."

Wembley hosts the FA Cup final (Chelsea vs. Portsmouth) and four playoff finals next month, as well as England's May 24 World Cup warmup against Mexico.
