U.S. wins Group C

In one moment of brilliance, this day and game went from one of the worst of my life to one of the most memorable and best. U.S. captain Landon Donovan scored in stoppage time and improbably the U.S. comes out on top of Group C.
It's the first time since 1930 that America has won its Group and it couldn't happen in a crazier style. I was dreading the 0-0 tie between Algeria and the U.S. that looked like a forgone conclusion because we deserved better. That's fact, not opinion. The U.S. dominated the match and they had so many chances, most importantly they had yet another goal called off.
Spending the next four years thinking about the goal vs. Slovenia and today's goal that were called off had me on the verge of tears and puking up the cereal I had eaten earlier in the match.
I can't remember a sporting event that had such a full range of emotions: by the end of the match I was livid at all the bad calls and near misses for the U.S. but then I exploded in ecstasy when Donovan scored in the 91st minute. Haha, I was crying too before the final whistle had even sounded.
This will surely go down as one of the greatest sporting events in American history. In terms of the stakes, drama and finish, it's hard to think that this could be topped. Just unbelievable.
The best part about the win is that the U.S. will get a much better draw by virtue of the three points. They'll play the runner-up of Group D which could be any of the four teams: Germany, Ghana, Australia and Serbia. As long as it's not the Germans, I like our chances.
The next match will be at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, a perfect time for a match that will get absolutely monster rating in the States.
