Here's a real shocker the referee for the U.S.-Slovenia match Koman Coulibaly will be held culpable for his critical gaffs against the U.S. and likely will be sent home.
I've gotten numerous texts from people asking me if there is a reviewing board or some sort of appeals process for the U.S. to get the goal back that was very wrongly stolen from them, a goal that likely would have sent the MNT onto the knockout stage, unfortunately the answer is no - there is nothing the U.S. can do at this point except win their next match which will put move them on and potentially win them Group C.
However, FIFA can review Coulibaly's disgraceful performance, and they are, and they can send him home, which they will likely do.
Unlike the NFL or MLB or the NHL or especially the NBA - FIFA does not stand for having terrible refereeing, and to be fair the reffing in this tournament has been largely very good.
Unfortunately the U.S. got burned again by a poor official, which seems to happen every World Cup. If you will remember in 2006 the U.S. got screwed when Pablo Mastroeni got the raw end of the deal in the Italy game getting a very questionable red card to make up for Daniel De Rossi being sent off earlier for Italy. In the same World Cup, the U.S. would later get screwed in the Ghana game, when Oguchi Onyewu was whistled for a foul in the box for a PK when the replay showed it was clearly outside the box. I can't remember all the other times because honestly I've tried to put them out of my memory, but let's just say there is a slight bias against us.
Dear Mr. Shimer,
ReplyDeleteWhats wrong with Mr Coulibaly? I thought he called a great game.
Sincerely,
