Game over: Uruguay wins 1-0 but Mexico also advances

It figures that just when something awesome seems possible-namely South Africa advancing, the French manage to mess that up too (by scoring in the second half).

Uruguay beat Mexico 1-0 and South Africa won 2-1 over France. It's only the second time that South Africa has ever won a World Cup game and unfortunately they become the first host nation to not make it out of the group stage.

Uruguay wins Group A with seven points, Mexico moves on with four points. South Africa had four points and France slinks out of the 2010 World Cup with a disgraceful one point.

Mexico moves on because their goal differential was +1 and South Africa's was -2.

Uruguay will get South Korea or Greece on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the first knockout stage match.

Mexico plays Argentina on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
