1-1 final, I had it right

In case you missed my predictions this morning I said South Africa would be a surprise earning a draw in the opening match. Although realistically they could have won when Mphela hit the post in the dying moments of the game, it was a deserved draw as Carlos Vela had a goal disallowed in the first half that was very close to being on-sides.

Very entertaining game. Tshabalala's goal will go down as one of the great goals not only in this tournament but in World Cup history. The first ever goal scored in World Cup history on the continent of Africa was a thing of beauty and very much reminded me of Philip Lahm's goal for Germany to open the 2006 World Cup. By the way it was Mphela on the feed not Steven Pienaar.

I like both of these team's chances of moving on to the round of 16 because I think France are a team in turmoil possibly on the verge of revolt against a prodding coach that does not have much sense in Raymond Domenech.

Anyway again wonderful wonderful start.

  1. Well, both group games ended in a tie. That pretty much keeps everyone in contention for the top 2 spots....except for Mexico!
