Melo served it up from the midfield line and Robinho one-touched it from the top of the box. A pretty difficult play looks really easy from the Brazilians. No idea what the Dutch defense was doing there.
1-0 Brazil in the 20th minute.

Robinho finishes, cool as you like

Robinho just scored in the 10th minute thanks to a sweet through ball from Felipe Melo. Robben was caught trying to catch Robinho as he made the run down the middle but he got no defensive help from teammates.
Netherlands looked to tie it up as Kuyt forced a save from Cesar on the next possession. The Dutch cannot afford to let Brazil score another goal to go up 2-0.
1-0 Brazil in the 14th minute. Netherlands defender John Heitinga picked up a yellow card for knocking down Fabiano.

Robinho wants another

Robinho stayed onside barely and had his shot saved by Bravo. Nilmar just came on for Luis Fabiano.
Humberto Suazo, who came into the 2010 World Cup with the most goals in qualifying, showed why as he made a nice move on Lucio but his shot was saved by Julio Cesar (even though it looked like it was going wide).
3-0 Brazil in the 78th minute.
Suazo just hit a weird mishit strike the top of the crossbar and go over. It's been that kind of night for Chile.

Elano makes the Brazilian ladies scream

2-0 Brazil as Elano scored off a perfect through ball from Robinho in the 72nd minute.
It was one of the prettiest goals of the tournament thus far, nothing mind-blowing just very efficient. That's Brazilian soccer.
Goodnight North Korea.
As soon as they lined up for the kick-off, Elano was subbed out for Dani Alves. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they pop another goal or two in the final twenty minutes.

Bastos crushes free kick but wide of the target

Left back Michel Bastos just had a great chance: a direct free kick right outside the North Korean box. He crushed it but it swerved wide at the end.
Robinho had a volley attempt that he put a lot of power behind but it missed the goal by a few feet.
North Korean corner kick here in the 55th minute. 0-0.

Is a little samba too much to ask? Brazil-North Korea live blog

As Shimer just said to me, "this is what the tournament needs, a great game from Brazil, too many 0-0 ties."
I couldn't have said it better myself. Hopefully Brazil can look like Germany in their opening match.
We're eight scoreless minutes in but Robinho has already had a sweet sequence of stepovers and also a couple chances on goal that sailed wide.

Unluck of the Irish

It has to be tough to be on the Irish national team right now. Not only did they get completely jobbed by France with Henry's blatant double handball, costing them a trip to the World Cup, but they had to gather this week for a friendly against Brazil.
Sweet, let's leave our club teams and gather in London to get pummeled by one of the best teams in the world, oh and it doesn't count for anything on the off-chance we play well.
I will give Ireland credit as they carried the play for the first 20 minutes (Kevin Doyle's beautiful header was batted away by Julio Cesar) in today's exhibition against Brazil at Arsenal's Emirates stadium but then the Samba Kings woke up and said, "hey, we're Brazil."
Then things started to go as planned as Robinho's cross in the 44th minute was put in for an own goal by Keith Andrews.
The former City striker then went for the jugular in the 76th minute as Kaka started the play and then Robinho worked a perfect 1-2 with Shimer's boy Grafite. I believe in my text message to Shimer directly after the goal I termed it "your standard Brazilian highlight reel goal."
Brazil will always be Brazil. As the announcer pointed out, Danny Alves of Barcelona is the most expensive defender in football and he's not even a starter on Brazil's national team.
Group G of North Korea, Portugal and Ivory Coast hopefully were paying attention today or maybe not since it'll give them nightmares for the next 100 days.
