It only took six minutes but Algeria nearly went ahead 1-0 in the sixth minute as a longball (from beyond midfield) was played ahead to forward Rafik Djebbour.
He was wide open and his tricky volley hit the crossbar and bounced away. On the other end, Herculez Gomez nearly caught Algeria goalkeeper Rais M'Bolhi with a shot from outside the box. The goalie dove and put it out for a corner.
0-0 U.S.-Algeria in the 10th minute.
0-0 England-Slovenia in the 10th minute.
Clint Dempsey had the first decent opportunity on a free kick but he put it over.
Jozy Altidore (20 years old) is the youngest striker to start at the 2010 World Cup.
