Buffon might miss the rest of the Cup

News coming out of the Italian camp is not good if you're an Azurri fan.

Goalkeeper Gialuigi Buffon could possibly miss out on the rest of the 2010 World Cup with what they're terming "a serious back problem."

Buffon left Italy's 1-1 tie with Paraguay on Monday at halftime. Backup Federico Marchetti will get plenty of attention if he has to take over full-time. As I've said before, Italy's Group F is complete garbage.

They could play with Danny Devito in goal and they would still make it out of the Group stage. However, if they hope to get anywhere, they'll need Buffon. For a team that seemingly will struggle to score, defense and goaltending will be paramount.

This could be some gamesmanship on the Italians part but we shall see. It looks like a story that will only get bigger as time goes by.

Italy's next match is Sunday vs. New Zealand.

2nd half starts, Buffon nowhere to be seen

The second half is underway and the big shocker is that Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon-who is thought to be the best in the world-is out presumably with an injury.

Backup Federico Marchetti is now in.

1-0 Paraguay in the 51st minute.
